Task 1 – Types of Business Organisations
1. Describe the purpose of different types of businesses:
- Making a profit
- Offering services we all need
- Voluntary services
2. Prepare a presentation on 4 different types of businesses i.e. sole trader, partnership, limited company (LTD), public limited company (PLC) or franchise and prepare 1 slide for each that details:
- How does the ownership type work
- Why is this a suitable type of ownership for this business
- How many staff does the company have
- How much turnover does it produce
- Locations (Local, National or International)
- Size of its market share

3. Choose two of
the businesses you have written about and write a paragraph
to explain what aspects of the ownership are similar and
what aspects are different. Find out the aims and
objectives of both companies and compare and contrast the
differences and similarities between the two.
The two businesses you choose should be very different from
each other, for example a national or multinational retail
outlet compared to a local privately-owned outlet. This
will help you get a better mark for your work as you will
have more to write about.
