2 – Management Communication Tools
Scenario
A local business which has recently set up has come across
difficulties in attracting customers to its shop. Whilst
the owners original business plan had catered for a slow
start to sales at the beginning, sales are still well below
those expected.
Task
The business owners would like you to undertake a review of
the business and decide why the business may be failing to
attract customers. The following tasks need to be
completed:
1, Locate and highlight where the business is on the map
(& competitors locations)
2, Complete a competitor analysis table
3, Complete a traffic and pedestrian count outside the
premises
4, Create a questionnaire for potential customers to
complete
5, Create a database of the responses collected above
6, Create a mail-merged promotional campaign to try and
attract these potential customers to the business
7, Create a likely profit and loss account
for the
business based on the data you have
8, Review the options available to the Cafe
and recommend the best course of action.
9, Create a presentation (between 6-12 slides) containing
the above information in an informative way.
10, Write an evaluation report for the owners of the
business identifying:
- Your overall view on your presentation (good and bad
points)
- Advantages and disadvantages of using powerpoint to
deliver presentation
- The likely problem of the lack of sales
- Potential solutions to the problem
- How the business might fair in the future based on your
solutions
- How your solutions might this impact on:
- Financial - Cost implications to the business
- Social - how will local people/employees react to the
proposed changes
- Environmental - how will your changes affect the
environment? i.e. moving out of town centre = more
pollution? Packaging - recyclable? Organic local food?
