Task 4

The task is to produce a leaflet or a newsletter using DTP software. It could be for a business or for a not-for profit organisation such as a charity. The word length should be between 500 and 800 words and the material should look lively through the inclusion of graphical material. The content should include:

• graphs or tables should be titled appropriately and wrapped around by text
• at least one relevant digital photograph should be incorporated and titled
• a flow chart and/or an organisational chart, as relevant to the publication
• effective use of headings and subheadings
• an evaluation by the candidate that judges the success of the candidate’s output in relation to the objectives and target audience

Possible ideas include:

• A newsletter produced for members of a sports club or team, reporting on recent results and events, showing one or two action photographs, with a table of upcoming fixtures and a diagram showing who is responsible for what within the club/team (chairman, manager, secretary, kitman etc)

• A double-sided leaflet advertising a new fast-food restaurant; this should be as realistic as possible, with a photograph of the outlet, a menu with prices, a clear advertising message, clear instructions on how to order or collect the food, and a map created or copied from a website

• A double-sided leaflet for a school department, explaining the courses on offer, the staff (with organisational hierarchy, small biography and photographs) and the departmental ethos and rules. Short testimonials from students could be boxed and text-wrapped to enliven the prose.

1. Begin to create your DTP project (including bullet points at top of page.
2. Once you have completed the first page email to the rest of your group for feedback. Do this for all the remaining pages and the final completed copy.
3. The student should provide a report of around 500 words explaining the objectives, the outcomes and provide an evaluation of the effectiveness of the email group. It should be backed up with printouts of actual email correspondence.
4. Create an evaluation that judges the success of the candidate’s output in relation to the objectives and target audience
